Bonerama

Purpose:
Determine a band's leader by analyzing a publicity photo.

Disclaimer:
A band's inclusion on this blog reflects neither an endorsement nor a criticism of its music. This post is merely intended as a spotlight on the inner political workings of a collection of individuals who are in the midst of a cooperative, creative endeavor.

The Process:
You, dear reader, please answer the question, "Who's in charge here?"

After sufficient discussion has taken place, a verdict can then be passed based on a majority vote.

Everyone knows the guy in charge has the biggest instrument. So I'm going for Far Left Massive Brass Guy and the fact that he can hide the rest of the members in his huge horn.

seniority points to the seated white-haired gentleman, so i'll vote for him. (p.s. the guy standing with the dark jacket & light goatee looks just like my former supervisor.)

It's Mr. Trombone. He's got his legs spread in alpha-male dominance stance.

The guy in the white jacket with the full trom-boner. Beats flaccids, semis and other instruments every time.

Guy in front with the jeans

Initially I'm tempted to go with "Whoever convinced middle age guys that 'Bonerama' is a really cool name," and even the John Cougar Mellencamp/Eddie Van Halen-looking mofo in the middle, but ultimately, I will go with the elder statesman seated first from the left.

I too, shall vote on the basis of seniority, and say that the white-bearded gentleman is very much in charge.

Very interesting pic this time Splotch!
1. 'Tuba Guy' is automatically eliminated - he still suffers from the abuse he took in grade school as the fat kid in band.
2. 'Guitar Jones' hasn't yet figured out that this is a horns band and he's only lucky the rest let him hang out with them.
3. Token Black Guy plays drums.
4. 'White Jacket' thinks he is to Bonerama what Sting is to the Police. Unfortunately for him, he hasn't yet figured out how to sing and play trombone at the same time.
5. Hatless' boss is doing his best to take up most of the real estate, but he's a puffer fish in an ocean of sharks.
6. Alpha Male Hipster in jeans and suit coat is pretty cool but...
7. Elder Statesman has the smug satisfaction of personally knowing Chuck Mangione. Therefore, he's in charge.

HAHA YES!!! I can go back to voting for odjects!!!

I vote for the large looming tuba. Not the guy holding the tuba but the tuba its self. Because it is large and looming.

Jaded, I am so disappointed. What about the Exit sign? WHAT ABOUT THE EXIT SIGN

I vote for the boner

The guy in the white jacket looks a Bowie esque, no authority there, if you aren't c;ever they make you carry heavy things, so not tuba person. Hmm elder statesman, somehow he just looks a bit disinterested and is purely here to pass time till something more interesting happens, like the bar opens, or his pension cheque arrives, or someone offer him a spliff.
I go with goatee, well nourished man standing, in blue shirt. He looks like he knows the pressure points and how to control them all without leaving a mark. He is in charge.

The guy in the middle, in jeans

I think it comes down to Elder Statesman and the central, seated guy in jeans, who I suspect is the statesman's son. Elder is in charge for now, but Junior definitly has his eye on being the chief tromboner someday.

The guy with the biggest Bone always wins! Everyone else is just a spectator.

A band comprised of middle-aged men called Bonerama? Viagra is clearly in charge here over any Exit sign or tuba.

But the path to becoming the alpha (trom)boner is complicated and can’t simply be explained by pharmacology. One boner had to rise above the others. The boner seated in the center appears very relaxed, as if he just discharged his (trom)bone in a most satisfying fashion. I’ll go with him and forgo double entendre for the rest of the week, maybe longer (oops).

Yes, the guy with the biggest instrument is in charge, so it's gotta be the black guy. Some stereotypes are true.

The guy with the giant tuba would like to think he's in charge, but he's clearly overcompensating.

Dang it!!! I completely missed the exit sign Splotchy. That is a sign(pun is sooooooo intended) that it isnt in charge at all if I had to go back and look. After reading jared's bonerific vote I think I will stick with my vote for the large, looming tuba.

I hate to be picky, but that large instrument at the far left-back is not a "tuba", but rather a "Souzaphone", named after none other than John Phillip Souza, the King of Marches and Brass Bands. He (that is, J.P. Souza) is clearly in charge, posthumously. Neither the tuba-player-cum-souzaphone-player, nor the four trombone players are in charge, because, let's face it, they're playing trombones and souzaphones! I believe somebody already identified the drummer, the man with the obvious genetic predisposition for rhythm. Gary Sinise/Booger guitar player is just out of place, probably the only gig he could get.

Mr. Trombone up in front. =)

Rhubarb - I hate to be picky, too, but it's J.P Sousa, not Souza...anyhow I originally thought it was young, hip bone dude in the front, but after more consideration I have to agree that it is Elder Statesman who is in charge. No way ever is it the unfortunate tuba guy or the white jacket guy (either maitre'd at a shabby restaurant or my junior prom date). It's nice they have the token minority bone in the band as well.
