Hello Dave

Purpose:
Determine a band's leader by analyzing a publicity photo.

Disclaimer:
A band's inclusion on this blog reflects neither an endorsement nor a criticism of its music. This post is merely intended as a spotlight on the inner political workings of a collection of individuals who are in the midst of a cooperative, creative endeavor.

The Process:
You, dear reader, please answer the question, "Who's in charge here?"

After sufficient discussion has taken place, a verdict can then be passed based on a majority vote.

dave's not here maaaaan!

at first i thought leadership might be based on beardedness, but then couldn't decide whether to vote for least- or most- bearded. so i'll agree with lou: guy in suit is in charge.

I'm going for the guy in the middle.

I can't go with the suit guy, because of the pocket square...I'll go with the second bearded guy (second from right) sans hat cause he looks like he just spied that the bar is now open. A guy with that much anticipation is definitely in charge.

Who's in charge here?

Frank Zappa, apparently!

If you were saying hello to someone named Dave, you'd write "Hello, Dave" with a comma between the words. If you write just "Hello Dave" as this band does, it could be someone's nickname (perhaps because his name is Dave and he says hello in an amusing or unusual fashion). That person, named Hello Dave, would definitely be in charge, whichever one he is. In that case, I'd have called the band Hello Dave and the Goodbyes.

But maybe, just maybe, they really are saying hello to someone named Dave and wanted to avoid the confusion that punctuation in band names can cause (e.g., Panic! at the Disco, who became Panic at the Disco, and then went back to Panic! at the Disco about a year later after band members started leaving). Maybe they're even saying hello to someone named Dave Zappa (Frank's brother?).

No matter which way you slice it, the guy in the Zappa shirt is in charge, whether his name is Hello Dave, or he's saying hello to Dave (Zappa?).
